Questions on casting decks

Postby sugerz » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:13 pm

HI, im making a casting deck with my tinne and im using cheaker plate.
Im wondering if i should have the cheacker plate flush with side of the boat or put in down a bit?
Im thinking that i should have it flush with the boat so i dont have a bit of a lip .

Any sugestions would be nice.
Thanks
Sugerz

Hey sugerz
Are you talking about the top edges of the boat?

If so I would suggest putting it down a fair bit, (maybe 20-25cm) I know of a couple of very experienced fishos who have dropped stuff over the side from a casting deck being the same height as the sides, rods and reels in particular

Hi Sugerz.

Keep it down 3 or 4 inches.
Cover it with carpet
make sure you brace it properly or every time you move it will "pop".

My 1.5 bobs worth

Make sure you photo the project and share with us.

Hey dude, this probably goes without saying but I gather you are using alloy checker plate & not steel or you will sink the boat.  Sorry, had to ask.

As others have said make it so it has a lip. I will be using the aliminium to make my floor and deck in my boat and will be making it the same height as the front seat, which is about 5 inches below the side of the boat, purely for the fact that it is lighter. As PMB said make sure you take some pics so we can see how it comes up.

I think everyone has give you the best tip, not to have it flush with the top of the boat.

Can you post some picures up so we can see what you plan is.

Once i Finished my casting deck i will put the battery box in the back to even the weight of the boat out. The only reason i had that in the middle because of the weight of it. Just trying to keep it even.

hey Sugerz,
No such thing as CHEAP marine carpet.
Pretty much everyone selling marine carpet does so at around $30-$35 per metre(2mt wide roll X per mt cut length)
Good luck with your project.
hope to see it at MM Fort Courage???
