Torrumbarry the day after

Postby Gropper » Mon Jun 21, 2010 11:44 pm

Well I'm sure Jarboy will post the results of the last round of CVLCSS and congrats to Scotty who left us in his dust.

As Saturday didn't produce a hit for me and some others I was keen to try below the weir on Sunday. Lanched at the carvan park at 8am when they opened and returned at 4.50pm just before they close the shop and the gate! Becareful if you want to get home because they gave no warning.

Anyway the day was beautiful and something had changed, I had a hit here and there on SB's for no hook ups. Changed tatics and ran the ever reliable perch jackall and converted 3 yella's to 43cm. I thought while the going was good try a quick troll, if the small fish are on maybe the big ones are too. I was over the moon with my first cod on the troll, no monster about 40cm. Enough for the trolling, back to casting, and back to the jackall since it was working.

Next hit was what I thought was a good yella turned out to be a 52cm cod :D

All up 10 hits for 5 fish and first cod on the troll. Cod fishing nothing one day and a gem the next. Got home at 8.30pm and it was worth rising early to have another crack. Hey Mick should have been there. :eh:

cheers,
Wayne

Well done Wayne, great report

I was wondering if anyone was staying and fishing on Sunday. I had a look at the barometer readings on sundy and and it showed a sharp increase from 1019 on saturday to 1026 on Sunday and then another rise to 1033 on Monday. When I read this I was wondering if they came on the chew after saturdays efforts. Saturdays reading didn't move at all it was at 1019 at 9am and still at 1019 at 3pm. Could possibly explain why the fishing was a bit quiet on the Saturday  Maybe there is merrit in the watching the barometer after all :shh:

Cheers Nigel

Cheers fella's.

Good to meet you stormy and I rate the barometer as most important factor.
Especially went I don't rate my skills :)

If I had a barometeric watch I may have accidently let myself get locked in the caravan park and stayed the extra night. Explaining that to work would not have been easy.

well wayne, scoring a donut for the last round of the CVLCSS and then pulling up a little bit tired on the sunday   , i decided to take my rdo on the monday. i wanted to try below the weir at torrumbarry, but ended up going a little further to gunbower. had never been there before, so was keen to have a look around, just as much as a fish. very nice long concrete boat ramp, but the parking area had been cut in half because of the water filled pot holes. water was at a low level with rock and mud showing in different places both up and down stream of the ramp. you could see the lures about a foot under water, so a little dirtier than above the weir. found some good holes to about 13m and there are plenty of snags to choose from.

unfortunately, i fished all morning for one hit. spoke to one regular to the area who had caught one small yella and he commented it was his worst morning for some time. just my luck. one thing i didn't try, which worked for you wayne was the jackalls. not one to give up easily, i packed the boat up and headed back above the weir. i didn't have much time left, but hey why not.

i went directly to a snag set fairly close to the boat ramp, one that i had trolled past on saturday, but didn't have a cast at. i worked the snag group for about 20 minutes, changed spinnerbaits a couple of times and then yes, i'm on. :D after a bit of curry up came the biggest yella i've seen in the flesh. 56cm long and 20cm deep. just like my last mulwala trip, a bit of persistance and it only takes one fish to make a good trip.
a new pb yella on the cast for me and another victim to an outlaw spinnerbait.

cheers acmick

No,Rohan was fit as next morning, only a bit of swelling(& a little lisp  ).No stiches or blood top ups required after the "bush doctors" fixed him up that nite.
Mum had a tiny fit when she saw it next day  ( I spose we all did when we saw that amount of claret flowing in the torch light......)

Hes pretty cool with it. "It'll grow back like a lizards tail eh Dad?"

Thanks for concern fellas.
