Transporting Rods.

Postby Curado » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:06 pm

How does everyone transport there rods in the car?

I only have a 2 seat ute and when I fish by myself the rods are in the front of the ute with me.
When I have some one in the ute with me the rods sit in the ute tray bouncing around with all my other gear. :problem:

I was thinking of get some sort of rod rack to hang from the top inside of my ute canopy.

What does everyone else use or do?

The rods that I look after are stored in a rod cover and srategically placed in the boat under the cover. Otherwise they are in the car with me as I dont have a ute.
a bad days fishing is still better
than a goods days work!!!!

Hi Guy's,
I have two bits of round tubing cut at the length of the longest rod, one tube holds 3 overhead rod and the other will hold 3-4 egg beater rods. When the boat is on they are tired down in it if not they just fit in the back of the ute. When at the fishing spot I get out the ones I want and the rest go back in the front of the ute.

I transport my rods in the cabin of my vehicle, i bunch 2-3 rods together and bind them with two rod wraps both reels and rods always have covers when transporting. Ive always wanted a boat with lockable rod lockers, maybe one day.

Hey Adam
Only one way in my opinion, $25 or $30 buys a rod tube that will hold a min of three baitcasters. (reels off of course) If you don't have a travel cover, just tie them into your boat and off you go. If you do have one, place it in the boat and it can roll around (if you want) without damaging you good rods.
If you want to put them in your ute, they will still fit (6' tube)

Most tackle shops have them as well as most discount stores. All similar price.

Jarvis Walker rod tube as Crank said works a treat on longer trips. Otherwise in the front of the ute but they can be a pain in the arse when they start rattling.

Thanks for the feed back guys.

I was trying to think of a way to keep the reels on so its just a matter of grabbing the rods out of the holder, put them in the boat or yak and fish.
Then I have more time fishing, less time putting reels on and rigging up.

Most of my fishing is done within an hour of my house so I would like it to be quick and easy. :D

I used to have a canopy on my old Commodore Ute, and had a set of those Velcro Rod holders. Slide the ends into the felt lined circles at the end, then Velcro the butts up nice and snug. No dramas to leave the reels on, and they don't rattle. I will have a look in my brothers boat tomorrow for the brand as he has a set the same for securing his rods in his rod locker.

Just got a new rod tube from the kids (birthday pres) ahead of going to flying to Kununurra and Maningida in May. Came from a Melb based co. called profishional......, just found em on the web, they were great to deal with, delivery in 4-5days. PVC lined inside and out, carrry strap, card holder, name embroided on it.....in cammo colours.

Light, solid, 90mm holds 4 rods in their bags...snug, safe and sound!

This is what I have done.
I don't know how it would go. I think it will hold the rods ok, just go to see how much they rattle.
