G'day mallee The gear boxes are only different in the latest ranger & Bt 50! Ford elected to address the 1st gear prob in the ranger & go a lower ratio where Mazda stuck with the same box . They are both made in thailand as are the hiluxes ,navaras etc .I think the only one that's not is the triton which is made in spain. I stand to be corrected ,but thats what I've read . cheers AL

Has your Courier got the 2.5L turbo diesel Rod? If so how much do you get out of a tank?

I noticed that a few have mentioned clutch problems in different brands of vehicles, as the Mazda has that too but I don't know of any that don't. A few owners of some we service have said this and they seam to do it when reversing in 4WD, Eg backing van into shed as they want the low range. When doing this it loads up the diffs and makes it difficult to turn the vehicle and that puts extra load on the clutch. If you don't beleave me "try it" as we have in the workshop on the flat surface and when you depress the clutch to vehicle stops dead. Last Sunday's Telegrath had a article on utes and they gave most at least 80/100 and the great wall got 60/100, I didn't think it would get a point as I thought they were a pile of sh**t. Mallee

Yep and about 380km when towing the big boat. Other than that Adam I have got no idea how much it uses but it seems to go a fair way on a tank. Rod Mac.

Great Wall, now there's a vehicle . Did a 15,000km service on 1 the other day & the drivers door already has to be slammed to get it shut. Thought I was going back in time when I lifted the bonnet to see a clone of a 7kc Toyota engine sitting there in front of me. (7kc's were fitted to Corollas in about 1976 if my memory serves me correctly), this was a dead set copy with distributorless ignition (coil packs) fitted & the hole in the block where the distributor would have been, blanked off. The carburettor was replaced with fuel injection, gearbox also looked like early hilux & same for the diff. All around it was a very poorly finished, gutless piece of crap & the owner even said you had to be very careful overtaking & make sure you had plenty of clear road ahead.

While we are on the subject, anyone have any thoughts regarding Mitsubishi Pajeros I am looking at buying a a cheap run about 4WD for towing the boat and campling, won't be doing many km's probably, and I was looking at something with around 200-300 km on the clock and around the $5000 mark (yes it is cheap) I suppose I just wanted to know would these cars with this amount of KM's on them still be OK for a few more years It would all depend on the cars condition, but any feedback would be good. Cheers Nigel

Id'e steer clear of anything petrol with that kind of km on the clock, diesels will hold out longer Pajero would be one of my last choices in 4wd with the great wall and jeep being right on the bottom. I would be looking at smaller 4wds like rodeos, mazdas on diesel for that kind of kanga.

I run into a old bloke about two weeks ago that was selling one for about $4500. Was in good nick and very clean with 250,000 on the clock. The big dent on the back was the only bad thing. Wasn't from Wangaratta, was from over near Corowa.
